Parking Strategies

At the suggestion of one of our loyal readers and someone that lives out in the sticks and is unsure of how to deal with parking in "the big city" we have decided to offer an invaluable service - parking strategies around the Pub.

Now, we can only offer suggestions and our observations of traffic patterns - if you choose to park in a place that the City of Richmond would consider something less than proper - you're on your own. At the same time, we might offer some hints as to when the ticket people are around - a wink is as good as a nod to a blind horse.

In the spirit of getting to the pub and staying for a while, we offer our secrets and ask you to share your secrets. We are open 7/24 for suggestions just e-mail me.

Parking Strategies for the Pub

• We are on the corner of 5th and Franklin - both are one way streets, yes, we are downtown. As a result, the direction of approach is the first critical aspect. Franklin is one way west-to-east. 5th is one way north-to-south. Plan you approach carefully.
• Franklin - between 4th and 5th (the right direction) there is parking on both sides of the street - pay attention to the signs, the ticket police are very good on sunny days.
• 5th Street - North of Franklin, but hard to get to because of all the construction, are several prime parking places - yes, I'm sharing this at the potential that I will loose them! South of Franklin on the side of the street by the pub is a row of parking. Be careful of the signs in front of the YWCA - you will get a ticket early, before 5pm - I didn't say this, just don't park in the bus lane.
• The Parking Deck - there is a parking deck across from the pub on 5th. Be aware, most nights they close at 7PM. If you are not out, then your car spends the night. Some nights, they are open until 10 or 11pm - and sometimes they let the pub know when they are getting ready to close. We cannot warrant this - we've dealt with too many people whose cars are in the care of the deck until the next day.
• Alternate, with a walk - on Broad Street between 4th and 5th is a parking lot, with pay in advance. It's only a two block walk. Be aware, with the road chaos, you can't get into the lot from 5th, you have to come North on 4th to enter.
• Main Street is one block down (South) 5th from the pub. Other than rush hour (4-6PM) you can park on the North side, all the time you can park on the South side - in legal places.
